
With the Christmas shopping season now upon us, it’s worth a reminder that out of all the various retail channels available to consumers – the digital channels still account for a huge amount of growth. During the recent Black Friday shopping holiday in the United States, online retail sales saw a 15% increase compared to last year.
While Australia lacks the same type of one-day shopping event, early indications show that online retail is certainly due for a bumper year. Last year, according to the NAB Online Sales Index, digital retail sales increased by 27% during the month of November, the typically busy period for pre-Christmas shopping. A year earlier, that growth was just 20%. Going forward, online shopping will continue to experience growth across a wide range of channels, including mobiles and tablets. As a result, consumers are changing their behaviour and this year will be no different.
According to a survey undertaken through the charity-giving app, AskU, the Christmas shopping trends reveal that not only will customers choose online channels but they’re doing so increasingly close to Christmas – which means many will be looking for last-minute deals. The AskU team has put together the below infographic highlighting some of this year’s trends – which will no doubt be the biggest yet for digital!
